As a native of Cottonwood, Sheryl’s years of bookkeeping for her father’s business, Hoene Implement, located in Cottonwood, Grangeville, and Pierce, prepared her for her Business Degree from Gonzaga University. After graduating magnum cum laude in 1973, she obtained a CPA license while working for an accounting firm in Boise. Sheryl returned to Cottonwood and was hired by a CPA and St. Mary’s Hospital. Felix and Sheryl were married in 1975, and her work started on the farm.
Together, they manage a small family farm/ranch on the edge of Cottonwood of which she is the bookkeeper and tax consultant. In addition to selling beef cattle, harvest includes hay, wheat, barley, and lentils. Farm duties also include organizing sales of hay, combining, driving grain truck, hauling and feeding cattle, and gardening. Since 2008, she is teaching part-time high school.
Felix and Sheryl raised six children, four girls and two boys, during their thirty-five years of marriage. There are three grandchildren: Grant, John, Levi. Five children, Rachel, Yvonne, Reuben, Bridget, and Mary, are now spread throughout the world: United States, Mexico, and Rome. The youngest son, Derek, a sophomore, is in love with ranching, farming, hunting, horses, and fishing.
Her life is blessed and full. She loves the Lord, family, and country deeply. She enjoys living the Catholic faith, camping and hiking in the high mountains, riding horses, working with youth, and making her home warm and welcome to everyone. Some recent events are: cattle drives with the whole family at Pittsburg Landing on the Snake River; the entire family experiencing Mexican culture and hospitality in Monterrey, Mexico, while visiting a son and daughter living there; most of the family touring Rome in the Jubilee year; the many camping/hiking trips in the Gospel-Hump wilderness; a three-day buffalo roundup at Custer State Park in South Dakota; and watching Derek bag his first bull moose on the North Fork of the Clearwater.
Out of gratitude and love for her country, Sheryl served as precinct committee woman for the Idaho County Republican Central Committee these past two years. She hopes to serve you in the Idaho State Senate for District 8, and she will remember that the people of Idaho elected her.
